Your Dog Grooming FAQs

Welcome to our FAQ page! Here you’ll find answers to common questions about Oscar’s Dog Grooming services, ensuring a happy, informed grooming experience.

Most full grooming sessions take between 2 to 3 hours, depending on your dog’s breed, coat condition, and temperament. I never rush my work; I prefer to move at a pace that keeps your dog calm and comfortable. I will give you a more accurate time estimate when you drop your pup off at my Gloucester salon.

I recommend starting as soon as your puppy has completed their full course of vaccinations (usually around 12 to 14 weeks). My “Little Paws” introduction sessions are designed to be short and positive, helping your puppy get used to the salon environment without feeling overwhelmed.

I specialise in working with nervous or anxious dogs. I provide a quiet, one-on-one environment which is much less stressful than a busy, loud parlour. If your dog has a history of aggression, please let me know during our initial consultation so we can discuss the best way to handle them safely and calmly.

My prices vary depending on the breed, size, and the specific service required. For example, a “Bath & Brush Out” for a smooth-haired breed will be less than a “Full Breed Standard Clip” for a Poodle or Doodle. I am happy to provide a no-obligation quote based on your dog’s specific needs.

In my experience, dogs usually settle much better and are less distracted when their owners are not present. This allows me to build a 1-to-1 bond with your pet and focus entirely on their safety. However, I am always happy to discuss this if you have specific concerns about your dog’s first visit.

My priority is always your dog’s comfort. If a coat is severely matted, it can be painful to brush out. In accordance with the Animal Welfare Act, I may recommend a “shave-down” to start fresh. I will always consult with you before taking this step and provide advice on how to maintain the coat at home to prevent future matting.

For most breeds, I recommend a visit every 4 to 8 weeks. This keeps the coat manageable, the nails at a healthy length, and ensures your dog stays smelling fresh. Breeds like Cockapoos or Poodles often require more frequent visits than short-haired breeds.

Yes, if your puppy has completed their full course of vaccinations (usually around 12 to 14 weeks).
