A Grooming Salon That Understands Nervous Dogs

Oscar's Dog Grooming Service in Gloucester specialises in calm, one-to-one grooming for nervous, anxious, reactive and rescue dogs. Every appointment is completely one-to-one — there are no other dogs in the salon when yours is with us. No barking, no waiting in a crate, no being rushed. Just calm, patient, professional care.

Many dog owners in Gloucester and across the county have been told their dog is "too difficult" to groom, or have watched their dog come home from the groomers stressed and unsettled. At Oscar's, we take a completely different approach — one that puts your dog's wellbeing first, every single time.

Caroline, our certified groomer, has extensive experience working with dogs of all temperaments. If your dog needs more time, shorter sessions, or a slower introduction to the process — that's exactly what we offer.

How We Make Nervous Dogs Feel Safe

1

One-to-one appointments only

Your dog is the only animal in the salon during their appointment. No other dogs, no chaos, no triggers.

2

We work at your dog's pace — always

There is no clock pressure here. If your dog needs a break, they get one. We never rush or restrain unnecessarily.

3

Split sessions available

For dogs who find a full groom too overwhelming, we can split the appointment into two shorter visits — making it manageable and positive.

4

No crates — ever

Your dog will never be left waiting in a crate. From the moment they arrive to the moment you collect them, they are with Caroline.

5

Calm, positive handling throughout

Quiet voices, gentle movements, and positive reinforcement. Bring a familiar blanket or toy if it helps your dog settle.

6

Tell us your dog's history

Before your first appointment, we want to know about previous experiences, triggers, and anything that helps your dog feel safe. Nothing surprises us.

Which Nervous Dogs Do We Groom in Gloucester?

Every dog is welcome. Here are the dogs we work with most often.

🐾

Rescue Dogs

Dogs with unknown or difficult histories who need a patient, trust-building approach at every visit.

😰

Anxiety-Prone Dogs

Dogs who show signs of general anxiety, separation anxiety, or specific grooming phobias.

Nervous Dog Grooming — FAQs

Will my dog be put in a crate?+

No. We do not use crates at Oscar's. Your dog is with Caroline from arrival to collection — there is no waiting time in a kennel or pen.

My dog has bitten a groomer before — can you still help?+

We always have a free no obligation consulation before any froom. This ensures you have time to discuss your concerns and most importantly for your dog to meet Caroline and get familiar with the grroming pod enviroment.

Can I stay with my dog during the groom?+

We kindly ask owners not to stay, as dogs often find it harder to settle when they can see or smell their owner nearby. You are welcome to call or message to check in at any point.

How long does a nervous dog groom take?+

Grooms usually take no longer than 2 hours. With nervous dogs we can break this down into 30 minute sessions to reduce stress.

What services can nervous dogs have?+

All standard services — full groom, bath and brush, nail trim, ear cleaning, and de-shedding treatment — can be adapted for nervous dogs.

Do you groom nervous dogs from Quedgeley, Hardwicke and Cheltenham?+

Yes — we regularly see dogs from Gloucester, Quedgeley, Hardwicke, Barnwood, Longlevens, Hucclecote, Kingsholm, Cheltenham and Stroud. Free on-site parking at Bristol Road, GL2 4RF.
