At Oscar's Dog Grooming Service on Bristol Road, Gloucester, we offer dedicated puppy introduction grooming sessions — Little Paws appointments designed to introduce your pup to the sights, sounds and sensations of grooming at their own pace, with patience and encouragement throughout.
A positive first grooming experience makes every future visit easier. A stressful one can create anxiety that lasts years. That is why we take Little Paws sessions seriously — this is not just a quick wash and trim, it is a carefully managed introduction designed to build trust and confidence.
Every Little Paws session is one-to-one with Caroline. No other dogs, no rushed environment — just your puppy, safe hands, and plenty of praise.
What's Included in a Little Paws Session?
Everything is introduced gradually — we never rush your puppy
Gentle Bath
A light bath using puppy-safe, gentle products. Warm water, calm handling, and plenty of reassurance throughout.
Blow Dry Introduction
We introduce the sound and sensation of the dryer gradually — many puppies find this the most unsettling part, so we take our time.
Tool Introduction
Clippers, scissors and brushes are introduced calmly before use. Your puppy will hear and feel them before any grooming begins.
Brushing
Gentle brushing to familiarise your pup with the sensation. We will also advise on the best home-brushing routine for their coat type.
Nail Trim / File
A light nail trim or file if your puppy is comfortable — never forced. Handling paws early helps prevent sensitivity later in life.
Owner Advice
Caroline will advise on the ideal grooming schedule, how to brush at home, and what to expect as your puppy's coat develops.
When Can My Puppy Have Their First Groom?
Puppies must have completed their primary vaccination course before their first visit — usually at 12 to 16 weeks. Please bring your puppy's vaccination record to their first appointment.
Puppy Breeds We Groom in Gloucester
We welcome all puppy breeds for Little Paws sessions, including Cockapoos, Cavapoos, Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, Miniature and Toy Poodles, Cocker Spaniels, Border Terriers, Bichon Frises, Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and all other breeds. Curly and wavy-coated breeds particularly benefit from early grooming introductions to prevent coat anxiety and matting issues later.
Puppy Grooming FAQs
Does my puppy need to be vaccinated first?+
Yes — your puppy must have completed their primary vaccination course before visiting the salon. Please bring the vaccination record to your first appointment.
My puppy is very wriggly — is that a problem?+
Not at all. Caroline has plenty of experience with excitable young dogs. Little Paws sessions are unhurried and we will take as many breaks as needed.
How often should my puppy be groomed?+
Curly or wavy-coated breeds (cockapoos, doodles, poodles) typically need grooming every 6–8 weeks. Smooth-coated breeds every 8–12 weeks. Caroline will recommend a schedule at the end of the first appointment.
Should I brush my puppy at home between grooms?+
Yes — especially for curly and wavy coats. Brushing 2–3 times per week helps prevent matting. Caroline will show you the best technique and tools for your puppy's coat type.
Where are you located and is there parking?+
We are on Bristol Road, Gloucester, GL2 4RF. Free on-site parking. Wheelchair accessible. We regularly see puppies from Quedgeley, Hardwicke, Barnwood, Longlevens, Cheltenham and Hucclecote.
